Acceptance then Change.
Denial, repression, or expression are often useless states of mind. To overcome these states of mind we can generate the attitude of acceptance, tolerance, and patience.
For example, "A mind of hatred is useless, but hey I've got one right now! It doesn't mean that it has to stay that way". This is a very healthy mind of acceptance. Once we accept something, then we can attempt to deal with it.
No acceptance = no possibility of understanding and changing the problem.
Acceptance overcomes our attitudes of denial and allows us to honestly and openly examine our state of mind - in its entirety.
