dṛṣṭānta (T. dpe) is translated as "example," "analogy," "comparison," etc.[1]

In some schools of Buddhist logic, the "example" is the 4th term of a syllogism.[1]

Dṛṣṭānta is also one of the sixteen categories of the Nyaya school. In this context it is an example used to support a logical argument.[2]
