Description

Enfants dans les bras de leurs mères, à l'entrée du Temple d'Hariti

Le temple d'Hariti (Ajima pour les Népalais) est consacré à une déesse d'origine hindoue qui est considérée comme une protectrice des enfants (elle protège de la variole et d'autres maladies,..). C'est aussi une déesse de la Fertilité.

Le temple est à proximité du grand Stupa, il est visité principalement par des femmes qui présentent leurs enfants à la déesse. Il témoigne de l'imbrication du bouddhisme et de l'hindouisme au Népal.

Le temple bouddhique de Swayambhunath est un site classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.

Situé sur une colline, il domine la ville de Katmandou et il est célèbre pour son grand stupa dont le bloc cubique qui soutient la flèche est orné du regard du Bouddha sur chacune de ses faces.

Le grand stupa est entouré de nombreux monuments, de stupas secondaires et de sculptures religieuses.
